KARTING | Antunes Records a Top-Nine Finish at Feisty Mini ROK Vereeniging Round

This weekend, the Vereeniging Raceway was the battleground for Round 2 of the National ROK Cup Kart Championships. In a fiercely competitive event, Mini ROK driver Diego Antunes secured a top-ten finish, adding to the thrill of an incident-filled weekend. Fortunately for the young Johannesburg resident, he came out unscathed, avoiding carnage on his way to a hard-earned ninth overall finish.

After qualifying in 12th on Saturday morning, the TrevPar World-backed driver improved to cross the finish line in 11th following a brief trip to the grass that saw him lose several places. Heat 2 would see Diego record his best result on the day with an eighth-place finish before securing another top-ten finish in the final heat in some fierce and warm conditions.

"After the wet race here a few weeks back, it felt completely different for me this weekend. We improved throughout the day, but more importantly, I managed to stay out of trouble despite a brief trip to the grass. We managed a top-ten result in a tough class and can leave here with our heads held high. We will build on this before we head to the next round in June," said Diego.

The national championship will resume on 14-15 June with Round 3 at Celso Scribante Raceway in Gqeberha.
