KARTING | De Wet Clinches Second and Top Rookie in Micro MAX Regional

Centurion resident Luhan De Wet put in a gritty Micro MAX performance on Saturday, finishing as the runner-up to his championship rival at his home circuit at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.

De Wet who qualified in fourth on Saturday morning was made to work hard in all three races as the Micro MAX class has become known to be competitive and at times feisty with any one of five drivers able to win any given heat.

A good start in the opening heat would see the Xtreme Racing Team driver go on to secure second while recording the fastest lap of the race. That lap time would allow him a pole position start for Race 2, where he led briefly before losing two positions to take third. In the final heat, De Wet would make another good start, leading the race's first four laps before tussling with his competitors to take the chequered flag in third, capping off a hard-earned overall podium.

"It certainly was a tough day out on circuit with the boys getting their elbows out. It adds a little spice to the competition and I don't mind it at all as long as it's fair racing. But as they say what doesn't kill you makes your stronger. We'll keep working hard and improve to fight for the win at the next round," said De Wet.

The next round is scheduled for 17 August at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit.
