KARTING | Steyn Claims Championship Third, Top Rookie and Lap Record at Rotax Finale

As the curtain fell on the 2024 South African Rotax MAX Challenge season, it also marked the end of a remarkable journey for Adriaan Steyn. The former National Bambino Champion clinched second overall over the weekend, earning third in the championship. With that, he earned the top rookie spot, a testament to his talent and perseverance.

Adriaan finished second overall at a hotly contested final round of the Rotax competition, held at its home at Zwartkops Kart Raceway. His weekend started strongly after the Greensky-backed driver claimed the runner-up position on Friday afternoon. He backed that up with his maiden win in Heat 2 on Saturday before finishing fourth and eighth in the remaining heats, respectively. He also added the accolade of being the new lap record holder around the Pretoria circuit.

"I'm quite happy with the results today," said Adriaan. "Although we didn't have any real chance of clinching the championship, we had some solid pace. To take my first national heat victory, be named the top rookie, and break the circuit record is no easy feat. Thank you to my amazing team and to Q4 Fuel, Greensky, Parolin Racing South Africa, and Sparco for the support."

While the national season might have ended, Round 7 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships will see Adriaan head to Benoni's Formula-K Kart Raceway on 12 October.
