KARTING | TGR Junior Academy Aim to Mimic Strong Vereeniging Display

Kent Swarts (Senior MAX)

Toyota Gazoo Racing's Junior Academy (TGRJA) drivers are gearing up for their third event at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit (VKC) this weekend. VKC, known for its challenging layout and fast-paced action, is a key venue for the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships. Several drivers are still in the running for regional championship titles, and the upcoming event at Vereeniging will mark the sixth round of the championships. However, it's important to note that the championship points standings are currently provisional as round four results and technical reviews are pending.

In the premier DD2 class, Jason Coetzee tops the championship table, having recorded the most victories. From his last two visits to VKC, the Capetonian has claimed five of six heat wins. Fellow TGRJA driver Karabo Malemela, who missed the previous championship round due to main circuit commitments, lies fourth. Like Coetzee, he too has had success at VKC, recording five podiums, of which four were as runner-up in his two previous visits there.

Kent Swartz, currently leading the championship, will return to the Senior MAX grid after also missing Round 5. Like his DD2 teammates, he has performed well at the Vereeniging circuit, achieving four victories and two podium finishes during his last visit there.

Fresh from a brace of podiums at the last round of competition, Emma-Rose Dowling will represent both the academy and women in motorsport this weekend. She also enjoyed strong results during Round 2 held at the same venue. Participating in the Iron Dames Young Talents Program in Italy, Dowling was forced to miss the third round of competition and will look to improve on her fourth-place championship ranking.

Round 5 winner Tshepang Shisinwana hopes to continue his strong form as he seeks another karting title. The Mini MAX driver has a good record at VKC in 2024 and has been victorious in two heats with two further podium results from six races.

With Round 4's outcome pending and drivers able to drop their six lowest point-scoring rounds, all regional titles are still up for grabs. The potential for unexpected outcomes adds an element of intrigue to the upcoming event. However, another good performance from academy drivers will see them extend their leads or be a few points closer to the top of their respective championships.

Spectators are welcomed with entry to the circuit free of charge. Expect another exhilarating round of karting this weekend.
