KARTING | Tough Mini ROK Final for Rookie Cornofsky

As the National ROK Cup Season ended, the unpredictable nature of motorsports was again on display. Kayde Cornofsky, the rookie of 2024, had a season of highs and lows. After a challenging final national Mini ROK round at the Red Star Raceway on Saturday, he left disappointed. Despite his best efforts, he could not compete for the podium, finishing in 13th place, his lowest position of the season.

Kayde, the reigning national Kid ROK Champion, struggled throughout the weekend and could only muster a tenth-place qualifying position on Saturday morning, more than a second off the pole sitter. In the opening heat, he went toe-to-toe with the midpack drivers, often making up a position or two. Ultimately, he crossed the finish line in 11th before another tough race saw him finish 13th. In Heat 3, the Johannesburg pupil encountered a setback when he was sidelined with a lap remaining. His most notable performance of the day occurred during the final heat, where he secured a 10th-place finish.

"There isn't much I can say," said Kayde. "It's just so disappointing to be unable to compete. We could not find a good balance with the kart. We lacked pace, which made it much more difficult for me to hold onto positions, let alone make any up. Being as competitive as I am, it's such a bitter pill to swallow. But I am not one to give up. I’ve learned a lot during my rookie year, and a few rounds of the regional competition remain. Thanks to everyone for the support. It means so much to me."

Despite the setbacks, Kayde, with his potential and determination, is not deterred. He will return for the fourth leg of the Northern Regions ROK competition on 7 September, aiming to bounce back.
