FORMULA 1600 | Ensor-Smith Intent on Extending Championship Lead at Penultimate Round

With a commanding nine-point lead in the INVESTCHEM Formula 1600 Championship, KC Ensor-Smith is set to return to the Killarney International Raceway for Round 6 this weekend. The premier single-seater category makes a second visit to the Western Cape as part of the National Extreme Festival tour.

Ensor-Smith aims to achieve two more victories in the competition's penultimate round, adding to the four victories he has already secured this season. The Witbank resident has also won three of the last four races and has only missed a podium placing once this season, allowing him to overtake his closest rival, Jagger Robertson, in the championship standings. Despite earning only one pole position this season compared to Robertson's four, Ensor-Smith has set the quickest race lap in every round so far.

"I'm excited to be returning to Killarney," stated Ensor-Smith. "Last time, we were just starting our season, and the pressure was less. This weekend is crucial for my championship, where I am hoping to extend my advantage. Ideally, I don’t want to give up any points this weekend. While it might be thrilling for spectators, I'd prefer to enter that round with a points cushion and a few more points in the bag. I'm also fully aware that while all the attention might be on myself and Jagger (Robertson), there are a few drivers who can win this weekend. So, the goal will be to concentrate on our own weekend, put in the laps and go out and win."

The race day on Saturday will kick off at 10:20. Spectator tickets are available for purchase in advance through Webtickets (https://tinyurl.com/mtaua8es) or can be bought at the entrance of the Killarney International Raceway on the day of the event. The entire race day programme will also be streamed live on the Extreme Festival website (https://extremefestival.co.za/live/).

This round of the National Extreme Festival is proudly hosted by the Western Province Motor Club (https://wpmc.co.za/), in association with Smile 90.4 FM (https://smilefm.co.za/).

Ensor-Smith thanks Vito Frameless, African Heating, Master Stairs, Motorsport Fanatix and Sparco for their support.
