KARTING | A Day of Firsts Awaits Bezuidenhout with OKN Debut

Mikel Bezuidenhout recently debuted at the opening round of the MSA Northern Regions Regional Rotax Karting Championship

Senior MAX and now OKN debutant Mikel Bezuidenhout will experience a day of firsts this weekend as he competes in the MSA Northern Regions Regional ROK Karting Championship opening round at Formula-K Kart Circuit, Benoni.

With approximately four months of experience in a kart, Bezuidenhout has only raced three times since, all three times in a Senior MAX kart at Zwartkops Kart Raceway. So it will be his first competitive outing at the quickest kart circuit in the country, and it will also be in the newly-introduced OKN class. He shares his thoughts on karting as well as the upcoming event.

“It’s certainly been an exciting few months. Six months ago, I was going about my usual business and look at me now, making another debut in what seems like an exciting new class. Being a complete novice, these two-stroke powered karts are high-speed. It’s much quicker than it looks. So for those out there that think it’s just another kart, I invite you to come and try one. It’s not for the faint-hearted. Everything happens so quickly, and you have to make split-second decisions. On the other hand, it’s probably safer than playing school rugby these days. Since I started, I’ve become somewhat addicted to the sport, so even though I’ll be racing in another class this weekend, I will enjoy it thoroughly. I have a great team backing me and some incredible support, so I am very grateful for the opportunity afforded me.”

While an official program is yet to be released, the day will typically commence with a warm-up session followed by a qualifying session before three race heats to determine the day’s overall winner.
