KARTING | De Oliveira Quickest Despite Vereeniging Runner-Up Finish

Despite not feeling well, Bambino ace Alonzo de Oliveira had a successful day at Round 6 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships in Vereeniging. Despite the warm weather, he overcame his illness and walked away with the runner-up trophy.

On Saturday morning, Alonzo performed well, securing the top spot during qualifying and winning the opening heat. However, in Heat 2, the Glenvista pupil had an unexpected excursion onto the grass, which led to him retiring from the race. Despite this setback, the NBR Racing driver recovered to win the final heat and claim his second victory, ultimately finishing as the round's runner-up.

"It was a tough day for me, to be honest. I tried to rest and stay hydrated as much as possible. When the lights went out, however, I felt ready to race. There were some good battles throughout the day, and we all raced pretty hard. The accident ruined what could have been a perfect day, but I am happy to finish second today," said Alonzo.

While the penultimate round of the regional competition is scheduled for 19 October, Alonzo will take on the nation's best in the final round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge on 30-31 August at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
