KARTING | Top-Five Finish for Bezuidenhout at Ferocious VKC Senior MAX Regional

Over the past weekend, Mikel Bezuidenhout achieved a solid top-five finish in the Senior MAX category at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit. In 2024, Mikel competes in two motorsport disciplines: karting and Formula 1600 racing. He has also been quite busy in recent weeks, juggling the ROK and Rotax kart series while still making time for circuit racing. On Saturday, he competed in Round 6 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships.

In arguably one of the most fiercely contested classes in South African karting, Mikel qualified sixth ahead of the opening heat, which saw him caught up in a tussle for the off-podium places. He eventually crossed the finish line in seventh. Heat 2 would again see a ferocious battle in the high school class, with the Johannesburg teenager claiming fifth, something he repeated in the final heat.

"It was quite fierce out there today," said Mikel. "The boys are quick, and no one wants to give anything away. While I made a few good passes, I also lost out a few times. Some days go better than others. My focus will now shift to the OKN national next weekend."

While the regional competition's penultimate round is scheduled for 19 October, Mikel will compete against the nation's best in the National ROK Cup final round this coming weekend at Red Star Raceway.
