KARTING | Steyn Claims Runner-Up, Top Rookie at Warm Vereeniging

Adriaan Steyn's second place finish at a warm Vereeniging over the weekend was a significant achievement. He added three podium finishes to his tally and finished as the highest-place rookie. The sixth round of the regional Rotax competition took place at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit.

Adriaan, the reigning national and Northern Regions Bambino champion, overcame a challenging qualifying session on Saturday. Despite lapping a few tenths slower than the few ahead, he raced to a gritty third place finish to claim the first of his three podium finishes. Heat 2 saw an improved result, with the Centurion resident finishing as runner-up and claiming the final podium position during the third heat.

"After qualifying in sixth this morning, I knew I had my work cut out for me. A few decent starts and some good pace throughout the day saw me finish well today. We will have to regroup ahead of the national finale where I hope to be more competitive. Thank you to my sponsors for all the support," said Adriaan.

While the penultimate round of the regional competition is scheduled for 19 October, Adriaan will take on the nation's best in the final round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge on 30-31 August at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
