KARTING | Two Victories Sees Cornofsky Narrowly Miss Out on Overall Kid ROK Triumph

Kayde Cornofsky narrowly missed out on the overall Kid ROK victory at Formula-K Kart Circuit on Saturday, 18 February, after claiming a double-heat win at the opening round of the MSA Northern Regions Karting Championship.

Cornofsky arrived in Benoni as the form driver following two good results in the Micro MAX class, which forms part of the MSA Northern Regions Rotax Karting Championship. Missing out on the pole position by less than five-hundredths of a second, Cornofsky asserted his dominance early by taking the lead of the opening heat, a lead he held for the entire race to ensure a comfortable victory and 35 points.

While the Xtreme Racing Team driver would repeat the feat in the final heat, he erred in the second heat, costing him the overall victory on the day. Leading the wet race, he made a judgement error during tricky conditions that saw him run off the circuit and unable to rejoin the race. Still able to score 25 points after completing five of the eight laps, he would be classified as the runner-up on the day.

“It was a phenomenal day for us,” said Cornofsky. “We were the fastest out there in all conditions. Unfortunately, I lost control of the kart in the second heat while leading, and despite my best efforts to rejoin the race, I couldn’t. It would have been three wins and the top prize on the day, but these things happen, so we’ll keep working hard and pushing for the titles on offer this season.”

Cornofsky will return to the track on 3-4 March as the national opening round of the MSA South African Kart Championships commences at the iDube Raceway, Camperdown, KZN. Cornofsky thanks Canario Cornofsky Attorneys, Calistos Portuguese Restaurant, Allegiance Properties and Smith Garage.
