KARTING | Spies Snatches Senior MAX Podium

Xtreme Racing Team driver Kian Spies finished third overall this past weekend after a robust set of results in the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships held at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.

Spies, a regular contender in the action-filled Senior MAX class, clinched third overall after some close racing around the Pretoria circuit. After qualifying sixth, he put in a determined performance to finish on the podium, showcasing his pace that could have seen him qualify higher were he not impeded. A subsequent nose-cone penalty would, however, see him demoted to sixth.

In what would be his best result on the day, Spies fought off his challenger to finish as runner-up before another close battle in the final heat saw him finish third for another podium finish.

"We had a really good pace this weekend, and I was able to get the most out of the kart despite not being 100% myself after recovering from a bout of tonsillitis. Very pleased with the results which bodes well for the upcoming national here at Zwartkops. Thank you to everyone for their support and to the team for doing such a stellar job," said Spies.

The next championship round is scheduled for 17 August at Vereeniging Kart Circuit.
